Hans J. Wegner’s Architects Desk was presented alongside the Round Chair pp 503 as model JH571 on the Johannes Hansen booth at the 1954 Copenhagen Cabinet Makers Exhibition. Exactly 60 years later it was relaunched by PP Møbler to mark the Centenary of Hans J. Wegner’s birth.

The Architects Desk is a perfect match for the later Swivel Chair pp 502 designed by Wegner in 1955.

*The strong tapered legs of the desk are set at angle  and held in place by two steel braces. This construction detail was adopted by several Danish designers at the time including

Wegner’s close friend Børge Mogensen in his 1950 Hunting Table, the inspiration for which can be seen in 17th century Spanish tables that also have slanted legs and metal struts.

However, this is the most typical Wagnerian of all the designers desks and like his best chairs has great presence with a strong graphic outline. All the desks components are separate and transparent. Even the drawers hang loosely from the table top. As in the Round Chair, the desks legs are thickest where they meet the side stretchers.

While the Architects Desk is a contempory of the Round Chair pp 503 it often appeared at subsequent exhitbitions with the equally impressive and organic office chair of 1955.* ref : page 240 “Just One Good Chair”Christian Holmsted Olesen.
