J16S Footstool

Wegner’s friend and fellow furniture designer Børge Mogensen, put the J6 rocking chair into production with the FDB (Danish Co-operative Union). This companion footstool is the perfect match for the J16 or can be used as a stand alone seat.

The FDB felt a social responsibility toward lower income groups and wanted to produce good quality

affordable furniture. Therefore. J16 was simplified so it could be sold as cheaply as possible. J16s is a example of what can be acheived using sticks and dowels to design a simple modern functional seat.

In common with his later designs for Carl Hansen such as chairs CH36 and CH44, the J16 and J16s were inspired by the aesthetically simple, self-produced furniture of the American Shaker community.
